Using performance measurements in human resource management: a survey of U.S. counties
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the use of performance measurements in human resource management in county government. The research focused on counties with populations over 50,000. Specifically, the analysis aimed to determine the kind of performance measurements used in county personnel functions, those responsible for the development of these performance measures and the county conditions, if any, that influenced the use of performance measurement.

Multi-source performance appraisals: employee perceptions of fairness
Article Abstract:
A study examined perceptions of fairness toward a multi-source performance assessment among employees in a major federal agency. This new appraisal scheme requires evaluations from peers, direct reports, supervisors and employees themselves. Findings revealed that employee perceptions of the evaluations' fairness and effectiveness improved, specifically among protected groups. Implications and suggestions for further research are discussed.

Improving employee acceptance toward performance appraisal and merit pay systems

This study of county government employees suggests that a leader's credibility and personal motivation are important factors in personnel management; specifically, the employees' acceptance of merit pay and performance appraisals.
