A multivariate hierarchical model for studying psychological change within married couples
Article Abstract:
Innovative statistical methods involving time-series data are used for studying psychological change in married people. Longitudinal techniques for studying individual change are combined with cross-sectional techniques for studying matched pairs. Each partner is considered to change over time as an individual growth curve or change function. Time-invariant personal background traits and time-varying environmental changes greatly affect an individual's trajectory. However, changes in individuals' psychological profiles are influenced by their partners.

Representativeness of observed couple interaction: Couples can tell, and it does make a difference
Article Abstract:
Evidence shows that people's public self-presentations can be biased in socially desirable directions. A study looks at the extent to which self-presentational bias occurs and the effect of such bias on the predictive validity of observed behaviour. The study was based on videotaped samples of couple interactions, and separate multi-item, consistent measures of typicality of support and undermining were seen. Partner ratings could be a useful tool to isolate invalid samples of observed behaviour.
