A partial test of the psychosomatic family model: marital interaction patterns in asthma and nonasthma families
Article Abstract:
A study on childhood asthma chronicity and exacerbation was conducted using the psychosomatic family model (PFM). Twenty families with one male asthmatic child and 20 families with one male child without asthma were used to determine the effects of marital dyads to these conditions. The findings indicate that nonasthmatic families had more tendency to disagree and have longer intradyadic engagements while asthmatic families were more solicitous. It was also found that marital quality of asthma couples had no effect on child solicitation.

How do psychiatric patients experience interactions with their relatives?
Article Abstract:
The Patient's Experiences of a Relative's Affective Style (PERAS) scale was used to evaluate patient's judgments of their relative's affective style-interactional behaviors in family problem-solving discussions. Results reveal that patients' PERAS judgement of relative's harsh and benign criticism are positively correlated with observer's affective style (AS) ratings of the same behaviors. Patient's rating of intrusiveness and support in relatives, on the other hand, are not related to the observer's AS ratings.
