Adolescents' influence and co-operation in family decision-making
Article Abstract:
Data from over 900 families were used to examine the decision-making process involved in the selection of a secondary school. For adolescents and parents, there were no grade level or sex differences in adolescent influence and cooperation. An analysis of teenagers' self and parental influence resulted in three clusters which included democratic, coalitions and where one person is the most influential. The clusters differed in absolute ratings of both cooperation and influence.

The relationship between problem discourse, coping strategies and placement outcome in foster adolescents
Article Abstract:
The disclosure and coping strategies of 21 foster adolescents were investigated. Results indicated that adolescents who have experienced crisis foster placements were more likely to disclose concern over parent and authority control over their lives. They were categorized as 'crisis' because of difficulties in their fostering relationships. These teenagers seemed more likely to use non-productive coping strategies in dealing with everyday problems.

Social class and defence styles among adolescents
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted among 1493 adolescents aged between 14 and 20 years old to determine the factors influencing psychological defense styles. The results showed that boys had more mature defense styles than girls. However, boys who had lost their fathers had less mature defense styles because of their lower status in society. The results suggests that social class differences exist in the development of psychological defense systems.
