Anorexia nervosa: Friend of foe?
Article Abstract:
There is a tendency to focus on the negative aspects of anorexia nervosa in clinical work with anorexic patients, but the question of the function of symptoms should also be considered during treatment. A component of short-term enhanced psychotherapy (STEP) is a letter-writing task which aims to address such issues. Pro-themes in the letters give a better understanding of the value attached to anorexia, and the anti-themes are also of use in enabling the clinician to see which areas of the patient's anorexia are ego-dystonic.

Use of aspirin to facilitate vomiting in a young woman with bulimia nervosa: a case report
Article Abstract:
A case report was done to validate the effectiveness of aspirin in inducing vomiting in a young woman with bulimia nervosa. It was found that aspirin has two mechanisms of inducing vomiting. One is a delayed effect by stimulating the medullary chemoreceptor trigger zone via the cerebrospinal route. Another is the immediate effect which acts on the prostaglandin mechanism promoting gastric irritation resulting to vomiting secondary to aspirin toxicity.

The data showed that peak season of birth for most eating disorder patient occur in May. Similar season of birth variations were found among people suffering from schizophrenia and affective psychoses. The data suggests that eating disorders may be linked to the seasons of birth.
