Anorexia nervosa, major depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder in a Down's syndrome patient
Article Abstract:
A male Down's syndrome patient became depressed then developed anorexia nervosa possibly as a response to lack of control over his own life. The 32-year-old patient had exhibited obsessive compulsive behaviours since childhood but these became more problematic following the death of his father. The patient began to display depressive symptoms and, after being transferred to a different hostel, to have eating problems. Therapists diagnosed serious depression and anorexia nervosa. The patient's condition improved significantly after therapy consisting of antidepressant medication and psychological therapies comprising support and education.

Licorice-induced hypokalemic myopathy and hypokalemic renal tubular damage in anorexia nervosa
Article Abstract:
A 29-year-old woman who had suffered from anorexia nervosa since the age of 19 developed licorice-induced hypokalemic myopathy. Potassium replacement led to the high CPK blood level and myopathic signs returning to normal. However, kaliopenic nephropathy was observed for more than six weeks after she stopped taking licorice, and there were signs of persistent distal renal tubular dysfunction. It is clear that a frequent urinalysis is important following treatment for hypokalemic myopathy, particularly in patients who could have been under long-lasting hypokalemia.
