Barriers to ego identity status formation: A contextual qualification of Marcia's identity status paradigm
Article Abstract:
Ego identity formation is acknowledged to be a socially embedded process, but some psychological, sociological and educational researchers have noted that identity research often concentrates on internal psychological development. The barriers qualification expands on Marcia's identity status paradigm based on Erikson's assumption that ego identity formation involves personal growth as well as communal change. This more accurately reflects socio-cultural variables which may affect individual internal psychological function.

Development and preliminary validation of the Ego Identity Process Questionnaire
Article Abstract:
The Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status and the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status, which are both used to measure ego identity, are hindered by several limitations. These include the actual content of items, the positive correlation between diffusion and moratorium scores and the inability to distinguish between exploration and commitment. To remedy this problem, a new self-report identity inventory is developed.
