Beyond the critical period: Processing-based explanations for poor grammaticality judgment performance by late second language learners
Article Abstract:
Explanations for poor grammatical performance in terms of processing difficulties in the basic cognitive process of memory, decoding and speed is presented and supports that poor grammatical performance is exhibited by general processing problems, rather than a deficit in some syntax specific process or module. The role of decoding and memory abilities are indicated when performance of natives and late learners under stress are paralleled.

Strategic control over rate of processing in word reading: a computational investigation
Article Abstract:
The proposal that the time course of lexical processing is influenced by strategic control factors in word reading is studied using the rate of processing hypothesis of control. The results of the simulation in word reading show that the control parameter input gain lies behind the effects of pressure for speed and stimulus blocking on naming performance.
