Children with autism show local precedence in a divided attention task and global precedence in a selective attention task
Article Abstract:
Typically developing children show a global advantage effect and a global interference effect in a divided attention task, according to research comparing the performance of children with autism and typically developing children on two versions of the Navon task. The research sought to investigate the claims of the weak central coherence and hierarchisation deficit hypotheses. Children with autism show a local advantage effect and a local interference effect in a divided attention task. The weak central coherence and hierarchisation deficit hypotheses are both challenged by the differential responding to global and local stimuli by children with autism.

Theory of mind in non-retarded children with autism and Asperger's syndrome. A research note
Article Abstract:
Non-retarded children with autism or Asperger's syndrome can perform almost as equally as normal children on the theory of mind tasks. Although normal children perform better than children with autism or Asperger's syndrome, most of the suffering groups can carry out the first-order task, and many can pass the second-order task. Those children who pass the task, perform better on verbal task than those who fail. Children with Asperger's syndrome are hardly superior to children with autism in their performance.
