Cause and effect beliefs and self-esteem of overweight children
Article Abstract:
Researchers interviewed overweight children, aged nine to 11 years, to discover their levels of self-esteem and their beliefs regarding their weight. The results indicated that overweight children have a tendency towards low self-esteem. The children who attributed their overweight to an external factor had more positive levels of self-esteem, which suggests that non-acceptance of personal responsibility for overweight may be a self-protecting act. Children who believed that their weight did not influence social interaction outcomes also had higher levels of self-esteem.

Body size, parental appraisal, and self-esteem in blind children
Article Abstract:
Preadolescent blind children have positive views about self-presentation, with no differences in sex or weight. Children who are judged by their parents as too thin suffer low self-esteem, but being perceived as fat by parents and others has no effect on self-esteem. Blind children tend to idealize a robust stature, believing that it improves their physical presence. Their innate need for a bigger presence overshadows their awareness of the negative attitude of both society as well as their parents, towards obesity.
