Cerebral organization of motor imagery: contralateral control of grip selection in mentally represented prehension
Article Abstract:
A divided-visual-field study was performed to test the hypothesis that motor imagery and motor planning consist of common neurocognitive processes. The hypothesis was explored using the theory of contralateral cerebral organization of the visual and motor systems. Results revealed that motor imagery was supported by processes involved in motor planning, control or both. Mentally represented prehension was attributed to contralateral organized mechanisms of the cerebral cortex.
