Children with symptoms of depression - what do the adults see?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the perception of parents and teachers on prepubertal children with self-reported symptoms of depression. It involves 5813 Finnish children between 8 and 9 years old who were assessed using the Children's Depression Inventory and Rutter scales A2 and B2. Reports from parents and teachers related depression with social withdrawal, peer problems, depressive moods, disobedience, symptom of somatization, passivity and restlessness. However, very few cases sought psychiatric care, suggesting that many of these children do not get the necessary care.

Quebec child mental health survey: Prevalence of DSM-III-R mental health disorders
Article Abstract:
The Quebec Child Mental Health Survey (QCMHS) was commissioned to obtain sound epidemiological data to help plan more effective services for children. Prevalences of Axis-I DSM-III-R mental health disorders were measured and informant parallelism enabled the classification of results of demographic variables linked to disorders. Informant parallelism exists in the QCMHS for disruptive disorders, although no informant parallelism is seen in the logistic regression models for internalizing disorders.
