Article Abstract:
Gilbert Gottlieb asserts that the developmental processes of autogenesis is affected by genetic factors through a multilevel coactional affair. Gottlieb also says that developmental coactional processes cannot be analyzed by developmental behavior genetics that does not concern itself with the mechanisms for transforming genotypes into phenotypes. Contrary to Gottlieb's assertion, however, nonlinear epigenetic processes can be analyzed using the techniques of modern behavior genetics.

Article Abstract:
Gilbert Gottlieb asserts the existence of a fundamental difference between developmental psychobiology and developmental behavior genetics on the issue of determinism. However, Gottlieb fails to ascribe a false kind of determinism to developmental behavior genetics. Gottlieb's understanding of developmental psychology would be greatly enhanced if he considers the pluralism that is present in that field, instead of focusing on the discipline's negative aspects .

Article Abstract:
Gilbert Gottlieb's article on behavioral genetics should be admired for its theoretical premises, which have long been part of the principles governing behavior genetics. Moreover, some of the article's criticisms against the methods and findings of a past study on behavior genetics are valid. However, the article fails to conclusively show that behavior genetics is of no importance to developmental psychology or biology.
