Comparison of nutrient intake among depressed and nondepressed individuals
Article Abstract:
The intake of all nutrients except that of proteins and carbohydrates is similar in depressed and nondepressed individuals. Depressed people consume more carbohydrates while nondepressed people consume higher amounts of protein. The increase in total sugar consumption accounts for 82% of the difference in carbohydrate consumption. An increase in sucrose consumption accounts for 77% of the increase in total sugar consumption. Sucrose consumption is high especially in depressed females.
