Confirmatory factor analysis of the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale: evidence for the dimensionality of posttraumatic stress disorder
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the latent or factor structure of the Clinician-Administered Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Scale (CAPS). A sample of 524 male veterans, half of whom were diagnosed for service-connected mental or physical disability, were evaluated from 1990 to 1996 at the National Center for PTSD in Boston, MA. Four competing PTSD models were specified and analyzed using chi-square difference tests. Results show that the best model, the four-factor, first-order solution, suggests a set of symptom dimensions or PTSD syndrome.

Alternative representations of war zone stressors: relationship to posttraumatic stress disorder in male and female Vietnam veterans
Article Abstract:
A measurement of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Vietnam veterans of both sexes reveals the influence of perceived threat, traditional combat, malevolent environment and atrocities-abusive violence on PTSD. These four stressor indexes affect PTSD differentially and are consistent with each other. Both men and women exhibit the same pattern of index correlation, while the one path coefficient in the model varies in males and females.

Focus groups in psychological assessment: Enhancing content validity by consulting members of the target population
Article Abstract:
Many researchers develop instruments without the benefit of consultation with members of the target population and even if they do its in a typical one-to-one interview format. A brief review to elaborate on the importance of population consultation and to evaluate the potential of a method of consultation, focus groups, to inform multiple stages of instrument development is given.
