Phonological activation of ignored pictures: Further evidence for a cascade model of lexical access
Article Abstract:
Four experiments are reported exploring whether distractor pictures activate their phonological properties in the course of speech production. The results of the experiments reveal that distractor pictures that are irrelevant to the communicative intention of the speaker activate their phonological content and this observation supports the notion that activation flows in a cascaded manner through the speech production system.

Lexical activation in bilinguals' speech production: language-specific or language-dependent?
Article Abstract:
Research suggests for people who speak two languages the target language and the language not being used are simultaneously activated. Fluent Catalan-Spanish users took longer to reject phonemes appearing in Spanish words than in the control word when deciding if phonemes were in the Catalan name of a picture.
