Constructing and validating motive bridging inferences
Article Abstract:
The acceptance of bridging inferences during reading comprehension by individuals is dependent on the validation of the inferences with general knowledge. Individuals validate motive-outcome statements that are separated by two to four sentences in coherent sequences. Representational status is similar for inferred compared to explicit validating knowledge. Understanding the motive sequences enhances validation. Proofreading removes the validation effect, while a reading method that encourages causal processing fails to improve it. Results support the constructionist model of comprehension rather than the minimalist hypothesis.

Cognitive and contextual factors in the emergence of diverse belief systems: creation versus evolution
Article Abstract:
This article examines the beliefs of fundamentalist and nonfundamentalist Christian children and their mothers regarding creationism and evolution. Findings indicate that mothers and preadolescents adhere to dominant community beliefs while children's knowledge of natural history and level of interest in religion predict their beliefs regarding evolution and creationism.

Belief-desire reasoning as a process of selection
Article Abstract:
Two competing models are proposed, which assume that belief-desire reasoning is a process, which selects content for an agent's belief and an action for the agent's desire. Six experiments carried out allow a number of conclusions regarding early belief-desire reasoning.
