Response mode bias in the formulation of preference: boundary conditions of the prominence effect
Article Abstract:
The influence of prominent attributes and processing goals on decision-making are analyzed. Results show that the prominence effect reverses when the number of attributes is increased. On the other hand, the prominent attribute had no effect on decision-making when the processing goal was to develop an impression of the alternatives. The prominent effect is also reversed when the task involved the memorization of alternatives.
