Covariation detection in treated and untreated spider phobics
Article Abstract:
A study to replicate the results of A.J. Tomarken et al (1989) concerning spider phobia was conducted. Thirty eight women participated in the study. The results mirror Tomarken's experiment. The subjects reported a covariance bias between aversive stimuli and the object of a phobia even though an equal number of neutral pictures had the same aversive stimulus. Two alternative explanations are provided in addition to that of Tomarken.

Discrepancy between self- and observer ratings of performance in social phobics
Article Abstract:
A study to replicate the results of a number of previous experiments concerning the discrepancy between the self-report of social phobics and other reports done by observers, was conducted. There were 28 social phobics and 33 nonclinical controls who participated in the study. Results replicate that of previous experiments. Self-reports indicate a lower performance ratings than those reports made by others.

Covariation bias in phobic women: the relationship between a priori expectancy, on-line expectancy, autonomic responding, and a posteriori contingency judgment
Article Abstract:
Investigations of people with spider phobia reveal the absence of illusory correlations (IC) in treated patients. Enhanced skin conductance responses (UCRs) accompany IC in cases where spider slides induce shocks. An IC between spiders and shock is observed in a posteriori, untreated people. IC, UCRs and on-line-expectancies exhibit a positive correlation.
