Prenatal infection and adult schizophrenia: a review and synthesis
Article Abstract:
This article provides an overview of epidemiological research on the relationship between gestational viral infections and the development of schizophrenia in adult offspring. Infections during pregnancy caused by viral pathogens such as rubella, herpes simplex virus, and cytomegalovirus have been linked to neurodevelopmental abnormalities and schizophrenia in offspring.

Maternal influenza and schizophrenia in the offspring
Article Abstract:
This article uses epidemiological data to examine the relationship between influenza infections in pregnant women and the development of schizophrenia in the adult offspring. The increased prevalence of schizophrenics born after influenza epidemics and during the winter and spring suggests that influenza may have a causal relationship with mental illness.

Obstetric complications as risk factors for schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
This article examines epidemiological data to investigate the relationship between obstetric complications and the development of schizophrenia in adults. Results indicate that problems such as prolonged labor and oxygen deprivation are associated with an increased risk of schizophrenia and neurodevelopmental abnormalities in offspring.
