Criterion validity of objective and projective dependency tests: a meta-analytic assessment of behavior prediction
Article Abstract:
There are links between interpersonal dependency and a number of mental health and health variables. An analysis of studies on measures of dependency shows that projective tests tend to have larger validity coefficients than objective tests. Many psychologists are sceptical about projective tests, but the results of this analysis show that such tests can be useful. Each type of test has both strengths and weaknesses, so neither can be seen as better than the other. Projective tests may be better for assessing underlying dependency, and objective tests may be better for assessing public self-presentation and self-perception.

Dependency and patienthood
Article Abstract:
Psychotherapy patients with dependent personality traits exhibit behavior tendencies that are likely to influence the process and outcome of their therapy. Clinical and laboratory studies suggest that dependent individuals comply with rules and expectations of authority figures, are sensitive to interpersonal communications and have a need for support and feedback. Dependency is an aid in initiating therapy but is a drawback in its termination. It has both positive and negative effects during therapy.

Construct validity of the Rorschach Oral Dependency scale: 1967-1995
Article Abstract:
A research review shows that the Rorschach Oral Dependency (ROD) scale possesses good construct validity and interrater reliability. ROD provides a measure of interpersonal dependency and is useful in determining the overt dependent behavior in children, adolescents, and adults. The scale can predict dependency-related behavior in a variety of participant groups. However, the scale does not have sufficient retest reliability over time.
