Deconstructing therapy outcome measurement with Rasch analysis of a measure of general clinical distress: The symptom checklist-90-revised
Article Abstract:
Traditional methods of assessment of the usefulness of psychological instruments indicate the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), to be a reliable and valid therapy outcome measure of general clinical distress but such methods have their share of flaws. The Rasch model of measurement in the social sciences was developed to address such shortcomings in traditional methods of evaluation and how the SCL-90-R stands up to item-level and conceptual analysis of the Rasch analysis is examined.

Factor structure of the psychosocial adjustment to illness scale (self-report) for persons with cancer
Article Abstract:
The Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale (PAIS) is often used as a self-report measure, although its reliability and validity have not been widely tested on persons with cancer. A study was undertaken to confirm the seven conceptual scales of the PAIS-SR and investigate its validty, based on a large sample of patients with a variety of cancer diagnoses. The results support validity of the PAIS-SR and its use in cancer research.

Perceived likelihood as a measure of optimism and pessimism: Support for the future events scale
Article Abstract:
A multisample analyses to support that the Future Events Scale (FES) has clear factor structure, good reliability and a theoretically meaningful nomological network is presented. The FES is shown to be distinct from the Life Orientation Test, which is the best known measure of optimism and pessimism.
