Depth of lexical-semantic processing and sentential load
Article Abstract:
The text-change detection task is used to show that changes are more readily detected for words that fall under narrow focus than broad focus and that narrow focus appears to lead finer semantic distinctions being held in the representation of the word. The paradigm is applied to investigate whether sentence processing load also influences the detection of changes, and whether under a high load, semantic distinctions are held at a more crude level than under low load.

Parsing with focus particles in context: Eye movements during the processing of relative clause ambiguities
Article Abstract:
Two studies are investigating the hypothesis that using only and prior referential context to specify contrastive focus can guide the parsing of relative clause ambiguities, using sentences that either temporarily allowed or disallowed a transitive main clause interpretation. Eye tracking demonstrated that conjoint effect of only and context influenced initial parsing decision only when the active transitive analysis was unavailable.

Evidence against competition during syntactic ambiguity resolution
Article Abstract:
Three eye-movement experiments that investigated whether alternative syntactic analyses compete during syntactic ambiguity resolution are reported. The experiments showed that globally ambiguous sentences are easier to process than disambiguated sentences even when the disambiguation is immediate.
