Early asthma onset: risk of emotional and behavioral difficulties
Article Abstract:
A sample of 150 children at generic risk for asthma development based on their mothers' asthmatic status participated in a study which examined the association between behavioral adjustment and age of asthma onset. The children's respiratory status was monitored during the first six years of life and mothers were asked to answer the Behavioral Screening Questionnaire to assess children's behavioral adjustment at ages two, three, four and six years. Results show that children with early asthma onset developed various behavior problems such as sleep walking, depressed mood and increased fearfulness.

Genetic association between atopy and behavioral symptoms in middle childhood
Article Abstract:
Atopy refers to diseases exhibiting a certain type of allergy, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis. High Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and atopy have been seen as synonymous, and there is a suspicion of a link between allergic disorders and emotional or behavioral patterns. A study was undertaken to gain information on the co-occurrence of behavioral symptoms and atopic symptoms in pediatric-age twins. Cross-correlation between atopy and Child Behaviour Checklist internalizing symptoms was found to be mostly due to genetic influences.

Problem behavior in early and middle childhood: an initial behavior genetic analysis
Article Abstract:
The influence of genetic and environmental factors on the development of problem behaviors in children is examined. Problem behavior is measured by the Child Behavior Checklist. It is administered to mothers of two- to three-year-old children and to mothers of four- to 18-year-old youngsters. Findings indicate that environmental factors may exert more influence in early childhood than in middle childhood, while genetic factors may be more influential in middle childhood than in early childhood.
