Effects of Group Norms and Goal Setting on Productivity
Article Abstract:
A study of the application of goal setting in the small group context is presented. Three variables are considered. These are goal assignment, coworker feedback on the goal level set and the number of coworkers on the quantity of production in a temporary work setting. Three hypotheses are tested. These are that subjects assigned a hard goal perform at a maximum level, that productivity will be higher when a coworker says the goal is set too low than when he says too high, and that multiple coworker feedback affects performance more than the feedback of one coworker. Only the second hypothesis is supported. A literature review is included.

Social Facilitation Effects on Behavioral and Perceptual Task Performance Measures
Article Abstract:
A study to determine the effects of the presence of other persons on employee performance is presented. Both behavioral and perceptual task performance measures and job attitudes are considered. Two hypotheses are tested. The first is that social facilitation effects will be found for the behavioral measure of performance quality but not quantity. The second is that social facilitation effects will be found for both perceived effort and and perceived performance. The first hypothesis is supported. The second is only partially supported. A literature review is provided.

Management by Trust
Article Abstract:
A conceptual management by trust model is presented. A literature review of material supporting the model is provided. Two hypotheses are formulated and tested. The first is that interventions of management by trust measures in an industrial organization will lead to improved performance. The second is that an effective industrial organization will utilize a managerial approach similar to management by trust. Case studies of two plants and two organizations are included. Both hypotheses are supported.
