Reconsidering the relationship between regret and responsibility
Article Abstract:
The interaction between the emotions of regret, disappointment and happiness may have more to do with measures of regret in unfavorable decision outcomes that a feeling of perceived responsibility in the outcome. This was shown through the manipulation of the decision agency which showed that the regret coefficient remained stable despite the unfavorable outcome of the decision. This is partly due to the attribution of the unfavorable outcome on the manipulation agency.

Emotional reactions to the outcomes of decisions: the role of counterfactual thought in the experience of regret and disappointment
Article Abstract:
Two groups of participants were required to undo autobiographical and imaginary scenarios of regretful or disappointing events in order to understand the impact of counterfactual thinking on emotional reaction to consequences of decisions. Regret was shown to be linked to counterfactual thought wherein the individual's actions are affected. On the other hand, disappointment was shown to stem from a change in experienced situations.
