Empirical criteria for evaluating rape as an evolutionary phenomenon
Article Abstract:
Thornhill and Thornhill's research on rape raises empirical questions. Evidence from cultural anthropology, conditions that would make coercion a strategy and costs and benefits are important considerations in establishing that rape could be a reproductive strategy or not. These are lacking in Thornhill and Thornhill's work. Furthermore, their results can be interpreted in a number of ways. Laboratory studies of men's sexual arousal may be interpreted as a reaction to a unique situation.

Individual differences in the propensity to rape
Article Abstract:
The target article is debunked in its assertion that all males are equally aroused by rape and consensual sex. Evidence is cited which show that there is a substantial difference between rapists and nonrapists in their reactions to depictions of rape. Incarcerated rapists show a marked degree of relative interest to depictions of violent and brutal rapes than do nonrapists even when the latter are instructed that sexual arousal to unusual stimuli is common and expected.
