Expert judgements of hypnosis from subjective state reports
Article Abstract:
A study to analyse suggestibility was conducted. The study's subjects were comprised of 38 female and 22 male college freshmen students in the University of Connecticut. They were subjected to four experimental conditions, namely, traditional hypnotic induction, alert hypnotic induction, relaxation training and imagination training. They generated open-ended reports which were then analyzed by hypnotism experts. Results indicate that a distinction could not be detected between all states of consciousness studied. Suggestibility is constant for all states.

EEG concomitants of hypnosis and hypnotic susceptibility
Article Abstract:
Analysis of electroencephalograph (EEG) measures of several people with varying degrees of hypnotic susceptibility indicates a change in the EEG patterns during the baseline period with the ability to be hypnotized, as revealed by theta values. An increase in theta activity is observed in participants with low hypnotic susceptibility, while the high-susceptible people exhibited a decrease in theta activity. The alpha activity rises during the process of hypnotic induction in all cases.

Transient positive and negative experiences accompanying stage hypnosis
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to document the transient positive and negative experiences of stage hypnosis. Subjects consisted of 13 men and 9 women divided into two groups. The results indicate that the participants had both positive and negative experiences. Some also had partial or complete amnesia. Some believed that they ceded volitional control to the hypnotist. All subjects had moderate to high suggestiblity potential.
