Personality and ability predictors of training performance for flight attendants
Article Abstract:
Selection-utility implications are examined for two methods of selecting candidates for flight attendant training: (1) personality and ability predictors and (2) employment interviews. Study participants were 123 women who successfully completed a company-sponsored flight attendant training program for a large US domestic airline. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis found four predictors that make a significant contribution to variance in training performance: mental ability, social skill, flexibility, and imagination. Utility analysis results demonstrated a $100 cost savings per selectee based on incremental validity gains.

Myths and politics in organizational contexts
Article Abstract:
Past research has independently examined the effects of myth systems and politics on organizational culture. It is suggested that the systems be studied together because they help to establish the internal context of an organizational setting and contribute to the understanding of events in organizations. Examples to illustrate certain points, and suggestions for future research are also described.

The impact of purpose, participant preconceptions, and rating level on the acceptance of peer evaluations
Article Abstract:
The acceptance of peer evaluations in an experiential management course are examined. In particular, the effects of the purpose of appraisal, favorability of peer ratings, and participant preconceptions are examined. Results indicate that peer evaluations are most easily accepted when they are favorable and when they are used for grading purposes.
