Family-based treatment for adolescent problem behaviors: overview of contemporary development and introduction to the special section
Article Abstract:
Adolescent disorders received more analytical and theoretical attention during the eighties and nineties, leading to a research based approach to treatment. Developmental aspects of adolescent problems get sufficient attention through the pathological method. An integrative perspective is used to diagnose cases such as hyper-active disorders. Treatment manuals have become standardized. J. Szapocznik's engagement studies have become models for retention of teenagers during therapy session.

Treatment techniques and outcomes in multidimensional family therapy for adolescent behavior problems
Article Abstract:
The link between treatment techniques and long-term treatment outcome in an empirically supported family based treatment for adolescent drug abuse is examined. Observations ratings for therapist intervention were used to predict outcomes at 6 and 12 months postreatment for 63 families receiving post dimensional family therapy. Results suggest that both individual and militiaperson intervention can exert an influential role in family based therapy for clinically referred adolescents.

Changes in parenting practices and adolescent drug abuse during multidimensional family therapy
Article Abstract:
Changes in the parental subsystem have a significant affect on the improvement of problematic behaviour in adolescents. Most parents and adolescents improve together, supporting the family theory that change in family environment correlates with adolescent's behavior change. In one study, 59% of the families experienced decreases in teenager drug use with parental subsystem change. Only 21% of adolescents showed improvement without their families making any change.
