Gender and depressive symptoms: parents' sharing of instrumental and expressive tasks when their children are young
Article Abstract:
The impact of parents division of labor, including emotional work, on levels of depressive symptoms was analyzed to determine the relationship between gender and depressive symptoms. Results revealed that women's depressive symptoms were predicted by emotional work and by the choice between the division of labor that would fit them or the one which is best for the family. Men's depressive symptom was predicted by their spouse's disagreement on the amount of housework they have done. Discrepancies between premarital expectations also influenced both men's and women's depressive symptoms.

Language supports for children's understanding of numerical fractions: Cross-national comparisons
Article Abstract:
Croatian, Korean, and U.S. children's knowledge of numerical fractions prior to school instruction were examined, as part of a project studying the influence of language characteristics on mathematical thinking and performance. The results indicate that the Korean vocabulary of fractions might influence the meaning that 6-7 year old children ascribe to numerical fractions, enabling the children to link numerical fractions to corresponding pictorial representations.
