Gender differences in long-stay psychiatric inpatients: observations from Northern Finland
Article Abstract:
A comparison between the clinical data taken on male and female long-term psychiatric inpatients is presented, focusing on the similarities and differences among 253 patients. Topics include such factors as marital and professional status, number of hospitalizations, psychiatric diagnosis, and age at which illness begins. Clinical similarities were found among genders when illness was severe, and male social functioning was poorer.

Prenatal stress and risk of schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
This article examines the relationship between prenatal distress and the development of schizophrenia in adult offspring. Results indicate that children born to mothers who had experienced an extremely stressful event during pregnancy such as the death of a spouse or a natural disaster had an increased risk of developing schizophrenia.
