Parent-adolescent interactions and psychosocial risk in adolescents: an analysis of communications, support and gender
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the influence of parent-adolescent interactions on the psychosocial risk in adolescents. Communication and support in family functioning were examined through self-reports provided by 279 intact families. Results indicate that the presence of psychosocial risk in adolescents is determined by the level of communication and supportive relationships with parents. Results also reveal that fathers can provide accurate information concerning parent-adolescent relationships and the psychosocial adjustment of their children.

Parent-child communication and adolescent self-esteem in separated, intercountry adoptive and intact non-adoptive families
Article Abstract:
Two different non-normative events, adoption and conjugal separation are examined in the context of parent-child communication and adolescent self-esteem. Adolescents from separated families were found to have more problems in their relationships with both the mother and the father than their peers. Adoptive children perceived a more positive communication with their parents than biological children, although adoptees exhibited lower self-esteem.

Parent-child relationships as a protective factor in preventing adolescents' psychosocial risk in inter-racial adoptive and non-adoptive families
Article Abstract:
A comparative study was conducted on inter-racial adoptive and non-adoptive families with a late teenager as well as the influence of family relations as a protective factor in preventing teenagers' psychosocial risk. The findings indicate the existence of a different relational configuration between the two groups. Moreover, the father-child relationship and the mother-child relationship play different roles in the prevention of maladjustment.
