Gene-environment interplay and psychopathology: Multiple varieties but real effects
Article Abstract:
Research evidence on four varieties of gene-environment interplay, namely, the epigenetic mechanism by which environmental influences alter the effects of genes, variations in heritability, gene-environment correlations, and the interaction between specific identified genes and specific measured environmental risks, are evaluated, a simplified account of the key features of how genes work is provided, as also views about the role of genetic and environmental factors in causing mental disorders.

Institutional care: Associations between inattention and early reading performance
Article Abstract:
The reading ability of children raised in institutional care from early age was compared with children raised in family foster care, to ascertain whether their educational attainment, as measured by their early reading skills, was related to their different rearing experiences. It was concluded that institutional upbringing affected reading performance both directly and indirectly, through the extreme levels of inattention associated with institutional care.
