Generality of a theory of collective induction: face-to-face and computer-mediated interaction, amount of potential information, and group versus member choice of evidence
Article Abstract:
The generality of the Laughlin and Hollingshead (1995) theory of collective induction is studied. Face-to-face and computer-mediated interaction experiments are conducted for four-person groups for three successive rule induction problems. Results prove the generality of the theory for both face-to-face and computer-mediated interactions. The study also showed the importance of social combination processes in obtaining and processing new information in cooperative rule learning.

Effectiveness of positive hypothesis testing for cooperative groups
Article Abstract:
A negative test strategy with embedded hypotheses demonstrates a more effective performance than a positive test strategy. A positive test strategy is basically more effective because overlapping hypotheses occur more frequently than embedded hypotheses. The effectiveness of negative and positive hypothesis tests should be considered based on the amount of evidence, criterion of certainty and on the five types of hypotheses.

Positive and negative hypothesis testing by cooperative groups
Article Abstract:
Positive hypothesis testing or testing for events of interest by group in rule induction problems leads to further examples of tests that are proportional to the correct rule. It further shows the significance of securing more evidence to arrive at the correct rule beginning with the lean evidence of the lone correct rule example in a rule induction task with uninstructed controls.
