Hematological changes in anorexia nervosa are correlated with total body fat mass depletion
Article Abstract:
Peripheral blood parameters and body composition were analyzed in 10 anorectic patients and 19 healthy subjects to study the relationship between total body fat mass (FM) and hematological abnormalities in anorexia nervosa. Anorectic patients were found to have lower body weight, lean tissue mass, bone mineral content, mean total leukocyte, neutrophil, monocyte and platelet counts than the healthy subjects. Such hematological changes in anorectic patients are correlated with total body FM depletion, which implies that the reduction of adipose tissue adversely affects hematopoiesis.

Immunologic cytofluorometric studies in adolescents with anorexia nervosa
Article Abstract:
The cytofluorometric study of immune function reveals small alterations in abnormal phenotype and immune responses of adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN). Twenty-six patients with AN under nutritional rehabilitation are subjected to in vitro lymphocyte stimulation and flow cytometry. Phenotype analysis show that the immune system of AN patients is not significantly impaired. The mean percent of total B cells is enhanced in AN patients compared to controls while T-lymphocyte subset, CD4%, count is slightly lower.
