Human newborn color vision: measurement with chromatic stimuli varying in excitation purity
Article Abstract:
A measurement of human newborns' saturation discrimination in three spectral regions, namely, the green, yellow and red regions, affirms earlier evidence that human neonatal color vision is extremely poor. Groups of newborn infants were habituated to 16-degree achromatic lights of varying luminance and tested at lower levels of excitation purity. Results revealed that newborns can make chromatic-achromatic discriminations from white when the purity levels were at least 41% for 545-nm green, 65% for 585-nm yellow and 47% for 650-nm red.

Sensitization during visual habituation sequences: procedural effects and individual differences
Article Abstract:
Research of sensitization during visual habituation sequences in four-month-old infants shows that those who did not demonstrate sensitization looking patterns habituated more readily and looked for a shorter period than those who demonstrated sensitization. Varying sensitization levels were not engendered by the use of different illuminated interstimulus intervals, although the infants' looking periods to stimuli increased substantially with dark illuminated interstimulus intervals.
