Innocence, spirituality, and human sacrifice
Article Abstract:
A Pieta transference/countertransference neurosis/psychosis occurs when a psychoanalyst identifies with the patient while also remaining unattached and impartial, and the patient projects aspects of his parents onto the analyst. Parents can transfer emotional disturbances to their children by perceiving the child as either a martyr or an outcast. The child transfers this sacrificial experience onto other individuals, the mother, or when in therapy, the analyst. The conflict between innocence and original sin connects the Oedipus complex to Christian mythology and the religious concept of human sacrifice.

Whatever happened to culturalism: from Horney to Lacan
Article Abstract:
Psychoanalyst Mario Rendon's paper, "Whatever Happened to Culturalism: From Horney to Lacan," discussed the development and influence of culture, feelings, and language on psychoanalysis. The distinction of humans from animals led to the conception of fear and the creation of religion as a means of accepting and allaying that fear. The notions of culture and individuality have matured with the passage of time, being continuously reinterpreted. Psychoanalysis must take the effects of culture and language into consideration.
