Job search strategies, attitudes to school and attributions about unemployment
Article Abstract:
Job-search strategies are closely linked to attribution for unemployment, attitudes to school, the perceived helpfulness of career advice, and characteristics of good jobs. A higher order factor analysis of the questionnaire scales reveals that self-effort strategies, fatalistic, background, extrinsic and alienated factors account for 45% of the variance. School results, sex, and number of siblings are predictors of self-effort strategies and background. Since these beliefs about work are interlinked they may be difficult to change.

Learned helplessness or expectancy-value? A psychological model for describing the experiences of different categories of unemployed people
Article Abstract:
A model can be used to describe the impact of unemployment according to the situation of the person who is unemployed. Adults and young people are likely to respond in different ways, as are those who are seeking first jobs and those who have lost jobs. Job seekers who are highly motivated are more likely to suffer depression, while those who have lost jobs are more likely to be affected by learned helplessness. Adults who have lost jobs are more likely to blame themselves and young people are more likely to blame external factors.

Lay beliefs about phobia
Article Abstract:
A study of 155 persons to examine the beliefs related with the nature and diagnosis of phobia using a two-part questionnaire reveals a clear link between the attitudes towards the cause and treatment of phobia. Lay people seem quite knowledgeable about the causes and treatment of phobia. Factors reflected by the 23-item attitude section and the 13-item treatment section of the questionnaire are discussed.
