Mating tactics are complex and involve females too
Article Abstract:
Thornhill and Thornhill's thesis on rape as an evolved male tactic lacks merit since any successful study on evolutionary sexual behaviour should consider female alternative tactics and the circumstances affecting both male and female fitness. Costs and benefits differ in mating tactics depending on the social system wherein they operate. Parker showed that any functional prediction as posited by Thornhill and Thornhill must first of all show that there is a difference when men rape partners and nonpartners. Also, sperm competition as a form of intermale competition must be understood.

The derealization of rape
Article Abstract:
Thornhill and Thornhill's (T and T's) thesis on rape is seen as a male objectification of women and it strengthens the perspective of male rape as the 'unreality' of someone - a woman. The analysis allows distancing of women's experience of being raped and only focuses on a male theoretical view. T and T's hypotheses omit women as the objects of rape, instead, man and rape are the dual subjects. The study is seen as not having accomplished anything except to perpetuate male rape culture.

A feminist response to rape as an adaptation in men
Article Abstract:
Objections are given in the way Thornhill and Thornhill (T and T) use synonymously the terms sexual coercion and rape. The former only connotes a symbolic representation of the latter thus, it does not fall within T and T's definition of male reproductive success. There is also no evolution other than through normal consensual intercourse. Rape behavior should not be isolated from other forms of antisocial and violent crimes nor any 'adaptive significance' be attached to it.
