Physical modeling applies to physiology, too
Article Abstract:
A physical model was utilized to show that the neural system can memorize a target position and is able to cause motor and sensory events that move the arm to a target with more accuracy. However, this cannot indicate in which coordinates the necessary computations are carried out. Turning off the lights causes the error to increase which is accomplished by cutting off one feedback path. The geometrical properties of arm kinematics and the properties of the kinesthetic and visual sensorial systems should be better known before inferences about higher levels of processing can be drawn.

Coordinate transformations in postural control
Article Abstract:
In a research done by Martha Flanders et al, a conceptual model of multiple stages of sensorimotor transformations has been developed to account for manual errors in pointing to visual targets by man. The model shows that pointing movements involve a kinematic representation of the endpoint and this representation is transformed into joint coordinates by means of linear approximation. Further studies of other control systems showed that neural constraints are shared by systems involved in arm reaching and posture.

Information decay during response delay
Article Abstract:
The research done on transformations between different coordinate systems was analyzed on the basis of neural processing and how motor commands might be incorporated. The analysis showed that sensorimotor information is lost at some stage while responding is delayed, but that increased processing time can raise the baseline before loss occurs. The influx of kinesthetic stimulation during the waiting period may be a potential source of interference and explains information loss in terms of simple decay.
