Medicaid's quiet revolution: merging the public and private sectors of care
Article Abstract:
The federal government is planning to transform the Medicaid program from a system that provides subsidy for each service rendered to one handled by managed care organizations. This move was devised to relieve state governments of the burden of paying for part of Medicaid costs, which has risen geometrically. Private physicians working for managed care organizations will have to deal with patients that used to be handled by public institutions, while psychologists will be required to cooperate among themselves and consumers.
