Onset of binge eating, dieting, obesity, and mood disorders among subjects seeking treatment for binge eating disorder
Article Abstract:
The chronology of the onset of binge eating, dieting, obesity and mood disorders among individuals being treated for binge eating disorder is investigated. The results showed that binge eating in most of the subjects developed during adolescence when they were still of normal weight. Binge eating came before either dieting or depressive mood disorders, indicating that early intervention is important in the treatment of binge eating.

Metabolic changes in the brain of patients with anorexia and bulimia nervosa as detected by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The use of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy has made it possible to detect metabolic changes in the brain of patients with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa compared with age- and sex-matched healthy controls. These changes were most noticeable in the frontal white matter, where the broad peaks containing mainly lipid signals were correlated with the body mass index and reduced to almost one half of its normal levels. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy combined with magnetic resonance imaging could be a more sensitive method to improve the characterization of eating disorders and to investigate their progression.
