Models of parenting: implications for adolescent well-being within different types of family contexts
Article Abstract:
Parenting in adolescence is important for psychological and social development with an authoritative style, combining control with concern, clearly being the most effective. Approximately 4,300 Scottish adolescents between 13 and 16 years old were surveyed to evaluate acceptance and control, dependance and autonomy and support and concern in parent-adolescent relationships. The majority of relationships fell into the authoritative or permissive styles with only a few in the neglectful or authoritarian groups. The later two groups were linked with school dissatisfaction, poor psychological results for the young people and low levels of control and acceptance.

Our family, whose perspective? An investigation of children's family life and health
Article Abstract:
This article investigates the relationship between family life and the well-being and adjustment of children in the family. Findings indicate that there is a very modest relationship between family structure and child adjustment and that multiple informants are needed to ensure the accuracy of family life studies.
