Negative social evaluation, but not mere social presence, elicits cortisol responses to a laboratory task
Article Abstract:
The relation between social-evaluative threat, a situation in which the self could be judged by the other people, and cortisol responses is examined. Findings reveal that people under social evaluative threat demonstrated increases in cortisol response. The effects of social presence on cortisol levels, as opposed to the impacts of negative social evaluation, are also evaluated.
