On the baby and the bath water: ecological approaches to development
Article Abstract:
The book 'Evolving Explanations of Development' focuses on ecological approaches to development. The child-environment system is investigated in the book as it applies to the physical and social environment. Although the book provides much value in the field, the direct realist approach utilized by the authors had the tendency to stress environmental structure at the expense of the structure of the mind. This tendency may possibly limit the success of the enterprise.

Relocating children in sociology and society
Article Abstract:
The pioneering work of William A. Corsaro entitled 'The Sociology of Childhood' focuses on societal questions. His primary theses shows that children are marginalized in sociological research and that the situation is a reflection of the economic and social marginalizations that children encounter. The book offers lessons on childhood from both a narrow perspective and a social point of view which makes it a great contribution to sociological theorizing.

Are we misconstruing children or scientists?
Article Abstract:
Critics argue that the child-as-theoretician or child-as-scientist theory is flawed. The metaphor is based on the observation that young children apparently construct theories about the world by making predictions and testing hypotheses in various contexts, much like the actions of a scientist. Although the socio-cultural environment plays a greater role in theory construction, issues concerning content and processes have to be considered.
