Groupthink, Bay of Pigs, and Watergate reconsidered
Article Abstract:
Group decision making may offer the advantages of generating ideas from a pool or collective judgement. The groupthink theory of Irving Janis focuses on the disadvantages of group decision making and used the consequences of the Bay of Pigs invasion by President Kennedy and the Watergate affair of President Nixon as examples. The adverse situations can be explained by the presence of a 'runaway norm' which caused an excessive action against a common 'enemy.'

Effects of task experience and group experience on group performance, member ability, and recognition of expertise
Article Abstract:
Task and group experience can both facilitate the task performance of a group through the operation of different mechanisms. Group experience increases the performance of a group on a given task by facilitating the use and recognition of the expertise of members. Task performance, on the other hand, improves the performance of a group on a related task by increasing the ability of members.
