Organizational Tonypandy: lessons from a quarter century of the groupthink phenomenon
Article Abstract:
Groupthink has continued to thrive after much criticism and despite being singled-out as the cause of all negative or erroneous decision making. However, an alternative view of groupthink has been presented which suggests that the phenomenon is a form of an organizational Tonypandy since known fallacious beliefs have never been contradicted by well-informed persons. Groupthink's detractors, who continue to talk about its shortcomings, should redirect their energies to making critical assessments of group processes.

The tendency toward defective decision making within self-managing teams: the relevance of groupthink for the 21st century
Article Abstract:
A typology was developed in order to show the pertinence of the groupthink theory created by Janis (1972) to the self-managing teams (SMTs) existing in the 21st century. The characteristics of SMTs such as task assignment, skill requirements, and cohesion can make them prone to the negative effects of groupthink. Methods for avoiding groupthink in SMTs include the creation of effective decision making norms, technical and leadership training, and better external environment interaction.
