Paroxetine and offenders: a pilot study
Article Abstract:
Compliance problems in impacting the recidivism rate of offenders in a community-based program with medication need to be explored with further research. The medication tried with a small group in such a program was paroxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. (SSRI). While about half of the group discontinued treatment fairly early on, 14 finished three months of treatment and experienced a reduction in obsessive-compulsive disorder and depressive symptoms. It is, however, hard to determine the medication program's impact on offenders' total rehabilitation.

Dionysus: twice born; and offenders?
Article Abstract:
A group therapy session for prisoners in S.M.U. prison examined the Greek myth of the half mortal-half god Dionysus, who's father Zeus saved his life and carried his infant body in his thigh. The group, in applying the story to their own lives responded with various opinions on life, crime and their futures. Many shared Dionysus' feelings of social alienation and insecurity. The exercise was constructive in helping the prisoners confront their crimes and personal feelings.
