Personality and risk-taking: a brief report on adolescent male drivers
Article Abstract:
Researchers investigated the relationship between personality and the risk of driving crashes in young male drivers in British Columbia, Canada. They assessed the personalities of 50 high-risk drivers and 50 low-risk drivers of around 19 years of age using the Personality Research Form and the Jackson Personality Inventory. The results did not correspond with several theories, in that the two groups did not differ significantly in factors including impulsivity, aggression, conformity and achievement-orientation, and the high-risk group scored higher on the self-esteem measure.

Young people's representations of others' views of smoking: is there a link with smoking behavior?
Article Abstract:
The smoking behavior of nine to 12-year-olds is associated with their perceptions and representations of friends' and parents' views, and beliefs about smoking. The nonsmoking children and adolescents believe that the significant others view smoking as an undesirable habit that lacks any pleasurable attributes. Smoker children and adolescents believe that parents and friends think that smoking enhances one's popularity, and is a fun-activity that is acceptable for children. Several differences in the perceptions of male and female children, and adolescents are discussed.

Sexual self-concept and sexual risk-taking
Article Abstract:
Adolescent males and females differ in their sexual self-concept, and indulgence in sexual risk-taking and other health-hazardous activities. The prominent sexual dimensions in male sexual self-concept are relational and socio-emotional, and they are negatively related to sexual risk-taking and other health hazardous behaviors such as smoking and alcohol use. The prominent dimension in female sexual self-concept is assertiveness, which is positively related to sexual risk-taking and other health-hazardous behaviors.
